TeleMedicine

Our new Telemedicine Program is an exciting opportunity that will allow students to be seen by a doctor while still at school. We have access to Dr. Kopacz, Dr. Bill, and over 200 other doctors including many specialists. Our goal is to provide every possible resource to keep each and every student healthy in order to stay in class, and receive a great education.

What is Telemedicine?

Telemedicine is the use of telecommunication technology to remotely diagnose and treat patients. This means your child can attend a doctor’s appointment without ever having to leave school! A laptop with a webcam is used for face-to-face interaction between the student and the doctor. We also have equipment that can look in the ears, nose, throat, eyes, and on the skin. We even have a stethoscope that records heart and lung sounds for the doctor.

Why should you use it?

Attendance is a huge factor in student achievement. The more time they spend in the classroom, the more they can learn. The Telemedicine Program aims to reduce absences while keeping students healthy. It is also very advantageous for parents because it means less time taken off from work while still meeting the needs of your children. Any necessary prescriptions can be sent to the pharmacy of your choice at the conclusion of an appointment.

What doctors can be seen?

Our program is under the Georgia Partnership for Telehealth. This means we have access to all of the doctors in their network, which currently has over 200 physicians. Included in the network is Dr. Kopacz here in Hawkinsville, Dr. Bill and Dr. Maddox in Cochran, Dr. Peebles in Eastman, and many specialists within the state. A parent/guardian will be notified before every appointment, and will have the option to specify which doctor they want their child to see.

How do you pay for it?

Telemedicine visits work the exact same way as a regular doctor’s visit. Any insurance will be applied, and the billing will be at the discretion of the doctor used.
