Grant Press Release

Pulaski County Family Connection and Pulaski County School System were recently awarded a grant from the Georgia Foundation for Public Education (G.F.P.E).  The grant is to purchase one book per month for each child through Ferst Readers and create literacy activities with students and teachers enrolled at the L.I.T.T.L.E. Children Growing Pre-k. The grant will also fund teacher books and family engagement activities that will be held at our local Head Start and Pre-K. The goal of this grant is to increase vocabulary and actively engage students and their families around literacy.

We were honored to have the State Superintendent Richard Woods, State Senator Larry Walker, GFPE Executive Director Paige Pushkin, Ferst Readers Program Coordinator Susan Vaughn, Pulaski County Schools Superintendent Dr. Pollard, Pulaski County Schools Assistant Superintendent Staci Vickers, L.I.T.T.L.E Children Growing Pre-K Director Gini Thompson, Pulaski County Head Start Center Director Stephanie Landeros, M.E. Memorial Public Library Director Joyce Ellison, Pulaski County Schools Parent Mentor Cynthia Criss, 21st Century CCLC Director Laurie Obert-Thorn, Hawkinsville/Pulaski County Family Connection Coordinator Maggie Bloodworth, and students from L.I.T.T.L.E. Children Growing Pre-K.

The last graduating class of Pulaski Tomorrow, an adult leadership development program dedicated to cultivating new leaders and community engagement, also partnered with Family Connection to sponsor books for all of the Head Start students. We are grateful to our partners and to the Georgia Foundation for Public Education for the opportunity to expand and promote literacy in Pulaski County.
