PCS Closure Plans for COVID-19 Outbreaks

Schools will not close if one or two students or staff members test positive for COVID-19.  School administrators will assist the  Georgia Department of Public Health (https://dph.georgia.gov/) in working with those who test positive to identify direct contacts and make plans for isolation/quarantine.  If a majority of the staff or students test positive at one school or facility, that school or facility could close for 14 days to permit isolation/quarantine of the students, faculty, and staff.

Should Pulaski County Schools need to close for a period of time due to COVID-19 cases, we have devised the plans listed below to support the instruction of our students.  Instruction will continue remotely if we must close for more than 5 school days.  Communication will be essential to facilitate these transitions.  Announcements will be published via the Pulaski County Schools smartphone app, district and school Facebook pages, district and school websites.  Please make sure to access one or more of these platforms regularly to check for updates.  Teachers and administrators will be in contact with you regarding your progress in the days to come as well.  Please be on the lookout for these communications.  We appreciate your support as we traverse these fluid circumstances.

Short term closure (3-5 days) for deep cleaning:

  • Virtual and person to person learners will pause in instruction for the duration of this brief break.

Extended closure (14 days):

  • Virtual learning students will continue with their coursework as planned.
  • Person to Person instruction will be determined by grade level and course level:
    • Teachers will contact parents and students regarding instructional plans for this time.  Please make sure your contact information (phone number and email address) are updated in Infinite Campus.
    • Students who have access to a device and the internet will participate in Google Classroom activities and will have access to many software programs used daily in the school building.
    • Students without access to a device or reliable internet connection will complete packets created by their teachers and distributed at the schools.
